Harry H. Sheldon papers 1913-1915.

This collection, held in one 2.5 x 15.5 x 10 inch box, contains correspondence, field notes and other papers of Harry H. Sheldon, Curator of Mammalogy at the Colorado Museum of Natural History, now the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, from 1913 to 1915. The correspondence includes handwritten and typewritten letters to and from Sheldon regarding procurement of various mammal species, including muskrat and white-tailed deer, from parts of Colorado and elsewhere. Many of the letters are to hunters and discuss species seen in Colorado on past hunting trips. One such letter, to John Everett of Rangeley, Colorado, states that the Museum "would be glad to get any of the following animals: Foxes, Bobcats, Lynx, Wolves, Marten, Weasels and Snow shoe Rabbits." Some of the letters also discuss Museum field trips Sheldon went on or arrangements he was making for future field trips. One, to the Postmaster of Patrick, Wyoming, asks that the postmaster track down a local rancher who would be willing to take a party of three on a camping expedition to "the vicinity of where the Green River crosses with Colorado." The collection also includes field notes, expense receipts, descriptions of species and other papers, some of them typewritten on Colorado Museum of Natural History, Department of Mammalogy letterhead.
